APEROL SPRITZ
INGREDIENTS:
2 oz. Aperol
2 oz. Prosecco
Splash of Soda Water or Seltzer Water
GARNISH: Orange slice
PREPARATION:
You say Italy and you think of pizza and spaghetti…but I say Italy and I think about the Aperol Spritz!
The Aperol Spritz is an Italian Classic, right up there with Negroni Cocktails.
These cocktails are the result of a solution of a classic APERITIVO that people from Veneto are accustomed to. The Venetian Spritz is made with White Wine and Soda or Seltzer. In the 1950′s people all over Italy started enjoying a revised version- Aperol, Prosecco and Seltzer. And that is how The Aperol Spritz was born! It took around 50 years to make it a real worldwide sensation and here it is.. My Mom’s favorite Cocktail is finally desired around the world!
Now that we have had our history lesson, lets make one! Directly in an ice filled Rocks Glass (or in a Big Wine Balloon Glass) add your ingredients in this order: first the Aperol, next the Prosecco and lastly a splash of Seltzer. Stir it gently and garnish with a slice of Orange or with some Cumquat slices (as seen in the photo) and serve.
The color is a sexy translucent red . The scent teases with the bitter oranges and the taste is screaming Viva la Italia! Dry and bitter but so refreshing and perfect as a before dinner drink or an ‘Apertivo’…if you were Venetian that is what you would say!
Dio te varda da un magnador che no beve! God saves you from an eater who does not drink!
